After the fall of Kabul on August 15, Panjshir province remained the only defiant holdout where resistance forces led by Ahamd Masoud, the son of late former Afghan guerrilla commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, were fighting the Taliban. Panjshir has been the stronghold of the National Resistance Front , led by Ahmad Massoud and former vice president Amrullah Saleh , who declared himself caretaker president.

As per sources, Saleh, along with Ahmad Masoud - the son of famous Afghan commander Ahmad Shah Masoud - another leader of the resistance, had been posing a challenge to the Taliban's leaders from Panjshir. However, that challenge is likely to wane in the coming days as Saleh and several commanders of Panjshir have fled the crisis-hit nation.

Yesterday, the Taliban said that it has killed 34 members and captured 11 checkpoints of the Afghan resistance forces in the northern Panjshir province. Earlier today, former Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai in a statement asked the Taliban and the "resistance front" in Panjshir to stop the fighting and resolve their issues through talks.

Follow us on :. I won't disappoint millions who listened to me. I will never be under one ceiling with the Taliban. I won't dis-appoint millions who listened to me. I will never be under one ceiling with Taliban.

Yusuf's remarks were in reference to a recent tweet by Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh who shared a picture of Pakistan Army's surrender to India after the war with a caption that "Afghanistan won't have a picture like this. This comes two days after Taliban fighters claimed that they had seized control of the Spin Boldak crossing area between Afghan and Pakistan territory. It is no secret that Pakistan backs and mentors Taliban.

Presenting a report at a security related meeting over the weekend, Saleh, a former intelligence chief, alleged that Pakistan was supplying thousands of IEDs to Afghan extremists, according to people aware of the matter. Expecting us to gift it for free is un-realistic. Saleh, during an interaction here, said Afghanistan never tried to increase the "cost of war" for Pakistan and always took a "high moral ground" in the hope that its neighbour would reciprocate, but it did not happen.
